You've probably already considered a PHP workaround: that is, coding
a destructor as part of your object and then calling it "manually" at the
bottom of the page. This is no long-term solution, but would qualify
for the "workaround" category. :-)
(I haven't tried this, but see no reason it shouldn't work, inelegant as
it is.)
