If you dont mind downloading a million libraries, a Java Servlet Exec, a
whole shebang of coding sequences to follow, then you might go with JSP.
The *only* time I'd go with JSP is when I need to keep connections live
between the client and the server, such as in an online chat (you can do it
with mod_perl too, which happens to be THE FASTEST, period).
Otherwise, believe me, PHP (and in some cases, ASP) rules.
Among other things:
1. PHP is easier to learn
2. PHP is easier to code/debug/maintain
3. Some benchmarks (you can search the archives of this list) suggest that
PHP is much faster than JSP (its a two-digit multiple, not 2-3 times)
Java is lucky that it is backed by an enterprise level entity (SUN) and ASP
is lucky because it has Microsoft. If Perl and PHP were backed by big corps
(and I hope PHP.net and ActiveState become as big as Sun/M$), they would
knock the socks off Java - at least as far as web development is concerned.
Hope this helps.
