I am coding in PHP for about 2 years, but JSP/EJB got my vote.

what are those milions of libraries?
don't you also need third party libs for PHP too (except MySQL which
comes bundled) ?
I have jdk118/Resin113|Tomcat31/MM JDBC driver for MySQL. That's all I need.

hmm, I think you are confusing a web container with an applet.

I do not agree with this one. There are already plenity of IDEs and
debugging tools for JSP.
Until the PHP debugger is out, we can only echo()/die()/var_dump()/error_log()
and stuff like that...

I'll have a look. My tests revealed the opposite (given the fact that
java code is kept in memory, and compiled much faster with a JIT compiler )

also Java has the support of Oracle, IBM and Apache Group, to name a few.

for this to happen those companies must me convinced to get involved
and provide support for this comunity of developers.
I preffer writing my scripts in vim, but I surely enjoy VisualAge say
when coding JSP.
I am looking forward for a benchmark suite for PHP/Perl/ASP/JSP, and
some unbiased test (yeah, dreams).
