I agree very strongly with your comments. The underlying problem I see is
the common tendency to oversimplify problems. Just pretending that
generating HTML on the fly is a simple task does not actually make this
true; a system built on that philosophy will be nothing but kludges because
it's based on an incorrect assumption.
Anyone who can write HTML or JavaScript at a professional level can handle
basic PHP. The difference is that by not pretending that this is all easy,
you avoid situations like Cold Fusion where you quickly run into the
language limits and have no alternative but to use C or Java unless you want
to port all of your code to a more capable environment.
