Ok, I've got to put in my pitch for Ultraedit, if you're using Windows, my
hands-down favourite editor.
There is a set of macro's developed for HTML; it wouldn't be too difficult to
extend those for PHP (until one runs out of keystrokes).

Probably not in the same league as very high-powered editors, but you are
productive almost instantly. I've used Textpad, although not recently, and
would give a slight edge to UE.
