What I meant to say is: the source code of PHP-GTK has nothing to do with this API bump. It has only to do with Win32 binaries that we "choose" to distribute to users. In that case, you can make available a version of PHP-GTK built against PHP 5.1 and then the same version built against PHP 5.2.

Andrei, The last Zend API bump came unannounced, and prevented any extension the other side of it working with the unofficial binary I'd rolled three days prior to it. This one will prevent several extensions (com_dotnet, date, dom, mysqli, reflection, simplexml, spl, sqlite, tidy, xmlreader, xmlwriter and xsl, to name those affected in the core distro) from working with anything built against PHP prior to the API change. That poses a real problem for win32 users, because PECL binaries are available _either_ with a PHP release download OR from pecl4win, which carries the latest snaps for each branch. In other words, there wasn't a way for users to pick up a copy of the PECL bundle that would work with my unofficial binary last time around, unless they went back to an earlier PHP release - and that in turn meant several PHP bug fixes were missing. So darn right it has something to do with the API bump! It was news to me that there should've been a midpoint release last September, and I had visions of the same mess happening again. In fact it will - the difference is that, thanks to the insistence on a midpoint release, we can tell people to ONLY use PECL extensions dating from the 5.1 series with this alpha, and presumably to ONLY use PECL extensions dating from the 5.2 series with our full release. - StephIt has nothing to do with API bump.
