Andrei, rewriting from scratch only involves breakage in this particular area if you want that to happen. It's a difficult one, because it will kill a lot of old scripts dead - but then again, it will make the new version prettier and easier to use. I think we're all fairly together on the idea that PHP-GTK 2 is likely to be more popular than PHP-GTK 1 ever was, for many reasons. The question is about the amount of loyalty you need to have to the existing user base, and about their interests - will they be ok to call this a whole new language and learn the new ways, or are they all desperate for an easy upgrade?I think that version 2 needs to take full advantage of all the new features of PHP 5 and should be considered a whole new language all together. I think that this probably won't be the only BC break as things go forward anyway. If it is the only BC break and someone is that upset about it couldn't they just include a PHP file that defines all of the 'old' constants in the global namespace? The file could even be packaged with the distribution just in case someone wants it. Scott
I still think this question should go to the vote on php-gtk-general. - Steph
