Just a open opinion from someone who played around with GTK+ about a year ago.. A lot of the confusion would be solved if the docs where better. I learned PHP pretty much on my own by using the online docs.. In this case the docs where sparse/not always as "nice" as php.net and when you tried to reference the gtk+ docs the functions didnt always match up.. By having the true api follow gtk+ you will ensure a solid document base to build off, Any gtk+ doc could be easily translated for use in php. This would give developers the full power of gtk+ By then adding a pear or pecl layer onto that extending gtk+ and providing simplified methods for access you give advanced developers a quicker way to develop since you would prob end up duplicated what any decent developer would do anyway, And thats take the methods you us often and make a library for them, and at the same time make it easy for beginners to jump in. From Christian's docs on GtkToolbar: The original toolbar creates buttons with icons and text automatically in a way <classname>GtkItemFactory</classname> allows it. In php-gtk, you have to create every single button yourself. This is a perfect example of what the wrappers would be good for. Instantiate the wrapped class and just pass it the info for each button (or all buttons at once). It would take care of creating the buttons and adding them to the toolbar. Whether or not there is an offical PHP-Gtk wrapper set, this would be a good idea for PEAR. Scott
