IMAP - shared?

Hi all,
I'd like to compile the PHP4 with IMAP support and I've compiled everything
ok.
However, after the make of PHP, it cannot generate the .so module file for
my apache 2 and after tracing, it said my "c-client" is static and therefore
it will build my PHP as static (yes, I've got the libphp4.(a | la)).
Since I'm going to install webmail client, IMAP support is a must and I
therefore cannot just remove it from my configuration, so what can I do to
overcome this problem? can I make my c-client as shared? Thanks.
