I was having this problem too with libmhash.so on RedHat 6.1. I installed
the mhash shared libs from source and they got put in /usr/local/lib. On my
RedHat build and apache installation, the default library path doesn't look
there, so you either reinstall the libs on a path that is found (like
/usr/lib), or add /usr/local/lib to your LD_LIBRARY_PATH environment variable
(and don't forget to export it), either in /etc/profile, your local .profile
(for the user the server is started by), your /etc/rc.d/init.d/httpd script
or wherever you start your webserver from.
