Tirza,
The NES module definitely needs threads since NES is threaded (at least
that is how I understand it.)
My configure options were:
--prefix=/netscape/web/php4 --with-nsapi=/netscape/NES4 \
--with-mysql=/b/mysql/server --enable-track-vars --disable-short-tags \
--enable-libgcc
I checked my config.log and there are several instances of it looking
for a pthread library. This is fine assuming it finds one eventually.
I'm on a Solaris 2.6 box and it looks like after about 4 tries it
found the right combination of flags to get pthreads working.
Also, I am using NES 4.1. I was having troubles getting it to go with
NES 3.63. Though this may not be an option for you financially.
In general, configure just tries various known implementations of
things it is looking for until it finds one that works and then uses
that information when it builds the Makefiles. So check your config.log
and see if you find the successful attempt and compiling the conftest.c
with threads.
Since it is at least building successsfully I'm guessing it is figuring
out threads on OSF.
It's really unfortunate that the developers pretty much ignore issues
on NES as well as less popular platforms. Using NES and Digital Unix
both you are getting a double whammy.
