Hi, please see my original query below. I am new to LINUX - and originally asked for help with a problem installing PHP4. I got a fairly prompt, but to me largely unintelligible, response back - which I have been trying to get clarified. This is now my third e-mail seeking clarification - I'm not asking much, just for the recommended steps to be explained in plain English and not "Linux-speak". Since the above e-mail address was offered to help out with problems - please would someone have the courtesy to respond. regards S.Garstin

Where do I find *mysqlclient* ? The file is not on the PC or on the CDROM 2. ld.so.conf is a text file in the /etc directory. How exactly do I add mysqlclient ? 3. I've found ldconfig in the /sbin directory - but what do you mean by "go back and make clean" ? Sorry for all the questions but I need alot of help with Linux at this stage. regards Simon G At 10:40 06/11/00 -0800, you wrote:
Looking at debug.log there is obviously a missing directory /usr/bin/ld and a missing file "lmysqlclient". I am new to Linux - and having followed the procedures in the book and (in fact) having completely re-installed Red Hat - I have no idea why this directory is not there or where to get the file from - also it may have stopped at the first missing file eg. there may be other missing files.
find *mysqlclient* stick it in ld.so.conf run ldconfig go back and make clean, then do the configure/make/make install process and see if you get any further. +------------------------------------------------+
