James, I would indeed recommend installing from source. Download the latest source from php.net and the latest apache source from apache.org. Uninstall the php rpm via rpm -qa |grep php (to find the names of any php rpms installed) and then rpm -U (rpm name) put both sources in /usr/local/src/ decide where you want to put apache (this is the prefix value) and follow the directions here: http://www.php.net/manual/install.unix.php (I recommend as a module) Hope this helps!
