I think the most promising parallel processing paradigms today are based on
asynchronous IO and not threading. That's generally the direction the
world is going in (Node.js / Swoole / etc.) Threading (ZTS) actually comes
at a fairly high cost, primarily in terms of performance but also in terms
of some implementation complexity, and has few advantages over async IO.
