As far as I am aware, the PECL_4_3 branch of the sqlite module does not have
any specific PHP version requirements, so it should also compile with 4.1.x,
although this is untested.
If it doesn't build out-of-the-box, it should be trivial to get it building.
I don't have time to look into this right now (I go on vacation tomorrow!),
so if someone else feels motivated, please do look at it.
I was mostly conserned about the PHP code used in livedocs. I have seen that you use highlight_string() for example with the return argument, which was added to PHP in PHP 4.2.0 (as documented). I don't know of any tool to check compatibility, we can only check it by putting PHP 4.1.0 under livedocs. The question is if we find more such code pieces, should we make livedocs be more downwards compatible, or should we increment the required PHP version, as it brings some other significant value for mirror sites?
Up the requirement I'd say. Why didn't you ask for a 4.3.x version the last time you asked the mirrors to update? :)
We need to ask them again because of the htdig and the sqlite changes, so I would like to collect more problems together. Last time 4.1.0 was enough, and only a few mirrors needed to change. Also I have just found out that PHP 4.3.x is needed for a standards compatible credits page on the website, but that is a minor issue ;)
An important additional info is that around 40% of our mirrors have pre 4.3.x PHPs set up, and we have a few more then 100 mirrors registered.
