I think the idea itself is quite good. But god, ouh god. That would multiply the note editors job by zillion. No, I think you missed my point. It would not involve any editor input at all, or generate any additional messages. Entries would simply accumulate counts of these designations by users (like Amazon's "9 out of 12 readers said this review helped them"). When it does come to actually checking them, which would you prefer: A random soup of notes of identical status, the only way you can see whether they're worthwhile is to read them all (the current situation), or; A list of notes classified by what the people reading them think of them? You could focus straight on the crap/wrong/obsolete notes. Higher rated notes probably don't need looking at at all, unless you were thinking of incorporating them into the main docs. It wouldn't necessarily make the job of initial screening any different, but I can certainly see it helping in the longer term. Of course editors don't have to do anything at all, but I'm sure they'd prefer to work with some feedback than none, and stats could accumulate regardless. I can see there being issues with real-time updating, mirroring and multiple languages though. Anyway, just an idea.
Hope my reply made some sense to you.Indeed it did, thank you. Marcus -- Marcus Bointon Synchromedia Limited: Creators of http://www.smartmessages.net/ marcus@synchromedia.co.uk | http://www.synchromedia.co.uk/
