Got it. I was trying to setup a graphical interface to our MySQL database which is hosted by our
ISP (IE, on a server which I do not have administrative access to). Here's are the only changes
from the default setup that were required when using Win98/Apache 1.3.12/PHP 3.0.16/phpMyAdmin 2.0.5
(our ISP is running MySQL 3.22.26a under Red Hat Linux 6.1):
<p>httpd.conf (Apache configuration)<br>
======<br>
ScriptAlias /php3/ "/php3/"<br>
AddType application/x-httpd-php3 .php3<br>
Action application/x-httpd-php3 "/php3/php.exe"
<p>php3.ini (PHP configuration)<br>
======<br>
doc_root = c:\Program Files\Apache Group\Apache\htdocs<br>
extension_dir = c:\php3<br>
extension=php3_mysql.dll ; I uncommented this line (removed the semicolon from start of line)
<p>config.inc.php3 (phpMyAdmin configuration)<br>
======<br>
$cfgServers[1]['host'] = 'mysql.hostname.com';<br>
$cfgServers[1]['user'] = 'myusername';<br>
$cfgServers[1]['password'] = 'L0ngAnd@ryp7ic:)';
<p>Since I only wanted admin access to our database from this machine, I secured apache
somewhat with:<br>
Order deny,allow<br>
deny from all<br>
allow from localhost<br>
and by changing the port it listens on to a non-standard port (less likely to get picked up by
port-scanners).
<p>Took me half a day to figure all this out, (and half an hour to compose this post - LOL).
<p>See you on the Net!<br>
