to get --with-dom to work, you need to look for {libxmlprefix}/bin/xml2-config and symlink it to
xml-config. I had already tried the two suggestions above (linking the lib files, linking the
include dir), and although ./configure --with-dom worked fine, apache wouldn't start,
complaining about broken libraries. linking xml2-config to xml-config (I renamed the original to
'xml1-config') solved the problem.
