There is a note in the inline documentation and in
package.xml about that.

I think it is much better to determine if the
package is experimental or not by setting a flag
in package.xml. By doing so we can easily split
those experimental classes from the ones that are
ready for production use in the web frontend, in
the pear installer etc. ...
