I second this. But I wonder if XML databases are really _that_ different from RDBMS in terms of handling/querying data that there is no possibility to just make a driver class for DB or MDB.Abstraction on this level is no more sensible imho, as there are similarities and differences between the RDBMS arlready.
I have no experience at all with XML databases, but I wonder if they don´t work like others, e.g.: - Connect to server - Make a query (in whatever language/format) - Retrieve result object - Iterate through results, extracting arrays for each dataset - Free result - Close connectionSurely one has to connect to a XML database server just as one has to connect to any other kind of server. Querying and especially updating (which is updating, deleting and instering in depth) is though a little bit different. What would make sense _one day_ is to implement the XML:DB API (http://www.xmldb.org/xapi/index.html) for PHP. Due to the lack of a very very good support for DOM and other XML stuff I think it is a) rather complicated right now b) one should wait for better XML/DOM/OOP support (--> PHP 5)
If XML databases work like that as well, I´d rather like to see this as a new DB/MDB driver. This wouldn't be a really good idea imho. -moh
