Little bit offtopic: I use mnogosearch to index my password protected site via HTTP. I can directly index the filesystem because it uses PHP and that needs to be parsed ofcourse. Indexing works okay using the Apache Basic Auth stuff (you can just supply mnogo with username/passwor din indexer.conf), but I want to switch to PEAR::Auth because I want to use sessions, register additional session data and make a nicer login form. But mnogo doesn't understand cookies so it can never login to my site. I don't want to use URL based sessions (e.g. url.php?PHPSESSIID=dsa2231hsh) Any way to overcome this problem?
Can't you still use PHP sessions without cookies, and use HTTP Basic emulation in your PHP scripts via header() calls? This way you can keep your Basic auth scheme, but still gain from the benefits of PHP's session data storage functionality, and not have to change MnogoSearch to work with your cookies. My own application framework has a session abstraction layer that allows you to switch the data storage layer, the authentication source, and the visitor handler, via a driver-like scheme. So for example, you could load the Basic handler, the PHP Session storage handler, and the Database validator, and you'd have exactly this. LiveUser probably allows this, and PEAR::Auth might too (I haven't really looked at either package, so someone else could better comment on those). Cheers, Lux
