pear installer and auto-activation of extensions

Any thoughts on having the pear installer add to the php.ini the necessarylines to make extensions work (add the extension= line), and or comment if the extensions directory is not configured correctly? Right now a 'pear install apd' works like a charm, but it doesn't get activated and the docs are a bit unintuitive to find (IMHO). As extensions get moved into PECL for php5, there should be a greater amount of 'it just works' that happens. George
