I still feel very strongly that this shouldn't be done until the installer
infrastructure is up and working - easily - for people.
I'm biased because I distribute code that depends on a bunch of PEAR
components, and my life is going to be hell if people don't have them either
preinstalled or don't have an easy way to install them.
