Hi, A couple of things concerning the PEAR meeting this friday in Amsterdam: - Which IRC server do people wish to use? I'm not familiar with IRC myself, but I've been told we can put all partipants on a unique IP outside the firewall, so technically any IRC server should be possible. I don't think it would be a wise idea to let everybody in the room participate in the IRC session. I would like to project the chat window on a wall in the room so that people who couldn't make it to Amsterdan can still ask questions to the people in the room. Ofcourse this should be in moderation to keep things from slowing down to much.Typically the pear channel is on EFNET. but some people cannot access it due to firewall restrictions. Therefore the choice is FREENODE, irc.freenode.org which apparetnly works with everybody. Okay, what sort of client windows do I need for that? Can you give me a URL?
- I would like to use Windows Media to provide a live stream of the meeting. There are clients for almost any common platform and it just happens to be what we use here at TERENA. We can probably provide and high and low bandwidth stream simultaniously.that's nice. What are the high/low in kilobytes or kilobits ? Is is possible that you provide a simple stream for a couple of hours before the meeting so that a few of us can test on their conf ? Sure, we'll do that. Kilobits, I don't know, we usually have a 512kb and 2mbit stream, but I think we should lower it as I imagine people will be tuning in from home. Sound is the most important thing anyway.
I would test it under linux/mplayer. Somebody could do it under win and last OS X. That could help.- Stig, will you be able to join us via videoconference and if so can we do a test either today or tomorrow? Other questions, comments anyone? Is lukas going to be the meeting leader ? Somebody has to be in charge to keep the discussion sidetracking. Yes he is (sorry Lukas ;-)
Thanks for doing so much :) No problem.Jeroen
