I understand the differences, but I'm still for a single package ( btw nice work :) ). Image_JPEG should be, at least, Image_IPTC_JPEG, or something like that, as a sub class of Image_IPTC. I do not see any good reason to have 2 packages to work with IPTC, this is not the same situation as we may have with others packages like templates. pierre
That was part of the discussion yesterday... IPTC is not really a subset of JPEG... and JPEG is not a subset of IPTC... Image_IPTC can actually work with TIFF files. Image_JPEG provides access to much more than just IPTC information. So what should it be? Image_JPEG_IPTC? Image_IPTC_JPEG? In the future, it might be possible to create Image_TIFF... and then, it might be possible to work on some kind of mechanism that would use the iptc*() functions for readonly access... In a sense, that's what would be required to "integrate" Image_JPEG and Image_IPTC in a single module (actually, a single set of modules). But I don't have the time to do all that work, and I doubt Patrick does... and meanwhile, there is no way to manipulate JPEG files in PHP. Image_JPEG and Image_IPTC are orthogonal... they are not parallel... and the only way to join them into a single package is to "multiply" them... not just a simple addition. And that would create a single package, yes... but one that would be an order of magnitude more complex... harder to maintain, harder to understand... and for the time being... harder to create.
