I'm actually holding off the release of Image_IPTC until we get this resolved, so we don't waste the time of people who would potentially download one of these packages. Let's try pointing out the ups and downs of both packages: Image_IPTC Description: A package for manipulating IPTC fields in various image formats Image_IPTC Pros: - Provides access to IPTC fields for JPEG, TIFF, and possibly PSD (I haven't tested this) - Uses the native iptcembed() and iptcparse() functions for speed purposes - Provides additional functionality for setting the fields properly for embedding - Creates the actual IPTC "packet" that can be embedded in an image Image_IPTC Cons: - Requires the native functionality of iptcembed() and iptcparse() - Not NFS safe because flock() isn't Image_JPEG Description: A package for maniplating JPEG header fields directly Image_JPEG Pros: - Provides a "pure" PHP wrapper for working with JPEG header data - Allows for the manipulation of IPTC, EXIF, and other potential metadata fields Image_JPEG Cons: - Probably slower for compilation and extraction of IPTC fields if that is the only thing desired I think maybe the package could be called: Image_JPEG_Header > -----Original Message----- > From: Martin Jansen [mailto:mj@php.net] > Sent: Wednesday, May 07, 2003 11:45 AM > To: Bertrand Mansion > Cc: Sebastian Delmont; pear-dev@lists.php.net > Subject: Re: [PEAR-DEV] Package Proposal: Image_JPEG > > > On Wed May 07, 2003 at 06:0238PM +0200, Bertrand Mansion wrote: > > That's the whole problem.
