I want to make an easy and universal setup/install procedureSounds great. From the pages I read of your presentation (you weren't joking when you said your host is slow) the concept sounds excellent. If this can really become a universal installer for PHP that people adopt as a standard, it could certainly be a big step forward for PHP applications; something like Pythons disutils. For me there might be some crossover here with the PEAR installer - perhaps it's worth seeing if there's anything that can be shared for example the XML-RPC "fetching" concept. Another project along that lines is Phing: http://www.binarycloud.com/phing/. Some other thing to consider would be making sure it's not tied only to the web form interface; command line and perhaps PHP-GTK interfaces should at least be a possibility. Also something to make it possible to upgrade an application could be get. And checking the general requirements of the PHP environment (ini settings, required PHP / PEAR extensions etc). Know you've seen many installers but another to look at could be the eZ publish 3.x installer (http://ez.no/developer) which may provide some ideas.
