About Net_IM as an abstraction: As said the Miranda-messenger (open-
source; miranda-im.org) and maybe some other messengers too already
have implementations for other protocols. The easiest in my eyes is
Jabber, since it has an open design and is based on XML-messages. So
why do you think that there will be never-ever any more IM-
implementation? From the abstraction-layer I would expect to be able
to
$im->login($user,$pw);
$im->sendMessage($receiver,"Hello Paul.");
$im->logout();
or similar things. And to my understanding this should be possible
with almost every IM-network out there :-) For sure, if you want all
features (file-transfers, chat-windows, ...) you need to use
Net_Oscar e.g. directly.
Just my 2 cents.
