Jean-Michel, just how interested are you in a C/C++ database abstraction layer ? i ask because ive been quietly working on one for the past 8 months, and although its not quite done, i think it will be quite impressive when it is. i figure i should have a compilable version with Interbase, Mysql, ODBC and possibly MSSQL support by December (possibly sooner) if nothing unforseen happens. if you have some C skills, i would appreciate some help, although there are still a few remaining design issues id like to iron out before i release any code. clayton collie
Hello Clayton, I am very interested by a C/C++ database abstraction layer. My past work includes pgAdmin I (http://pgadmin.postgresql.org), the Windows administration interface of PostgreSQL. Now, I would like to build an abstraction layer for pgAdmin II, which would also help in porting pgAdmin to other environments (PHP or KDE). Possibly also include this abstraction layer inside PostgreSQL to query other back-ends. My fields of interest are: - access to all database features (views, triggers, server-side functions, type, etc...), - import/export and migration issues. Basically, I would like to offer access to all databases to convince anyone to migrate to PostgreSQL. I love PostgreSQL and I am totally addicted to it. Such a library cannot be written in C as we need inheritance. The problem is that my C++ skills are poor, but I am learning fast. What is the advancement of your work? If you want discuss, do not hesitate to contact me. Best regards, Jean-Michel, Paris, France
