Is it very difficult to adapt DB_QueryTool to the new API?
I understand that you may not have enough time now, and I agree that minor
releases, while they may add features, must keep BC. HTML_Common has had
some new features added, for example, but BC was properly maintained.
Perhaps we should think of adding a BC flag in package.xml...
Here's my idea:
There should be a BC tag that tells when BC was broken last. That way, if
there is a major version with no BC break, the installer can go ahead and
install the latest version to satisfy dependencies. However, this way we
could check, for example, if BC was maintained from version 1.5 through 1.9,
version 2.0 breaking BC, and the dependency is for has="ge" 1.5, it could
install the 1.9 to satisfy it, because 1.9 will have the latest bugfixes,
etc...
Is that an idea that could be worked with?
