Most of the packages should work on PHP4 & PHP5, We are still waiting on final confirmation from Zeev or Andi if return by reference will be fixed..
Otherwise Packages taking advantage of PHP5 features will probably start appearing eventually..

Packages in PEAR will start migrating to the new PHP 5 object model at their own pace. I know that PHPUnit and MDB (another database abstraction layer) are migrating some of the code to PHP5 (using a branch of the CVS code). Not sure about PEAR::DB, I am cc'ing this message to the pear-dev list so you might get a better response from the maintainers. --- Mark Hensler <mark@maxalbert.com> wrote:-- Can you help out? I tried to cheat by installing a mysql binary. I guess the package didn't include the mysqlclient libraries (or I couldnt find them). I ended up using a source package and compiling my own. I just installed PEAR::MDB, and it appears to be working. Haven't tested completely. As for a rewrite of PEAR::DB. I doubt a complete rewrite is necessary, but I suspect they'll do it just to take advantage of the benefits of the new object model. Someone even suggested rewritting it in C:http://www.phpbuilder.com/mail/phplib-list/2001031/0148.php-Mark -----Original Message----- From: Jay Schauer [mailto:jschauer@ad2adnetwork.com] Sent: Thursday, November 20, 2003 11:32 PM To: Mark Hensler Subject: Re: PHP5 and PEAR Not certain if this advice is relevant or not in your case:http://www.phpbuilder.com/board/showthread.php?s=206de3c3d03030e7200a9270dd1b4a94&threadid=10246585 I bookmarked it for when my time comes to upgrade.
