For sure it would be great to test every package with php5. However, is there
something in the works so packages can be marked:
- php4-only
- php4/php5 (both)
- php5-only
? This has been mentioned before on the list. But I wonder if the core-team /
website-team has yet agreed on a common way to do this.
Also, will the installer take care of this (e.g. test "I'm running on php5 - so
I won't install php4-only-packages without forcing")?
And while we're at it:
How about the possiblity of branches, that has been discussed before? E.g. if
MDB2 might be marked php5-only (this is only an assumption - don't know about
it in detail) then MDB1 would need to be able to be e.g. tagged php4-only.
If you intend to put these compatibility-tags into the package.xml:
Since some packages might not have a new release for a considerable amount of
time, it would be best to default to php4-only-compatiblity in my eyes for all
packages that haven't been marked different.
