Yeah, one maintainer of Archive_Tar (from which also the zlib is
called) and I tried to debug it once - but had to give up. Maybe
somebody (you, Stijn?) has more luck investigating on that topic. It
would be highly appreciated to get that working again on Debian.
Regarding your options-question:
Try "pear help [command]". In this case "pear help package" gives
you:
-Z, --nocompress
Do not gzip the package file
-n, --showname
Print the name of the packaged file.
