Hi Stefan,
I think in the particular case of MDB2, this shouldn't require channels. In other words:
<?php
class MDB {}
class MDB2 {}
?>
This is valid PHP, and so by definition the two can co-exist (remember - the directory/class naming relationship still holds, so package MDB2 has class MDB2)

Otherwise there will still be no way to make a new major of e.g. MDB then be MDB2 - and be able to coexist with MDB. I know this has been done before - but imho we postponed a decision at that time. Maybe do it even before the first official PHP5-release so that we can say the new PEAR-installer now supports things like channels and as well other repositories? As I see it, correct me if I'm wrong, Greg already has several patches waiting to be introduced ... PS: No flames, please! Stefan
