I encourage you to look at binarycloud. we have this. we're in the
latter stages of building it
exactly what you describe: with caching, xml-defined-everything,
templates, builder, etc etc.
we have xml page definitions which allow you to build pages out of
objects using layouts and master templates.
all of these concepts: I agree with you! If you want to see that, come
help us finish our work... it would be a shame to start all over on such
a compelx project :)
