Something just occured to me: why not use GForge [1] as the basis for pear.php.net and customize it as needed?
Sounds like a neat idea, certainly worth looking into (if the customization is not more work than doing it from scratch). However, there are some in PEAR-land who believe that if it's not PEAR, it shouldn't be on pear.php.net. I am not one of them, but I have encountered one or two. Anybody else have strong feelings one way or another?
on postgresql.org we are migrating from gborg to gforge and ...I think is really a mess to migrate unless you have Tim (gforge developer) to do a lot of work for you free. :D
