Something just occured to me: why not use GForge [1] as the basis for pear.php.net and customize it as needed?
Sounds like a neat idea, certainly worth looking into (if the customization is not more work than doing it from scratch). However, there are some in PEAR-land who believe that if it's not PEAR, it shouldn't be on pear.php.net. I am not one of them, but I have encountered one or two. Anybody else have strong feelings one way or another?
Grr Paul .. it would be nice of you wouldnt misquote people. What we (Pierre and I) said was that we think its important that PEAR starts eating its own dogfood. But that doesnt mean we will only use a CVS implementation based on PEAR :-) For that reason I certainly dont mind looking left and right for existing options, but whatever we will end up with for pearweb should certainly use PEAR packages for anything we do have PEAR packages. This also applies to any applications we develop as part of our infrastructure. This is not an ego trip thing, its the perfect why to test our work on a high traffic site which would be stupid to give up. Finally we would focus our ressouces on working with PEAR packages instead of learning, tweaking, fixing and extending another system. regards, Lukas Smith smith@backendmedia.com _______________________________ BackendMedia www.backendmedia.com berlin@backendmedia.com Linn Zwoch Smith GbR Pariser Str. 44 D-10707 Berlin Tel +49 30 83 22 50 00 Fax +49 30 83 22 50 07
