Greetings, Current download stats for PEAR template engines: HTML_Template_IT: 59,577 HTML_Template_Xipe: 21,420 HTML_Template_Sigma: 19,318 HTML_Template_PHPLIB: 17,014 HTML_Template_Flexy: 7,565 I don't see any engine dying from lack of attention, I don't see hordes of mythical "confused users" complaining about the number of template engines in PEAR.I was one of them, just one month ago when started a proyect and wanted to use a PEAR one. It took me 1 hour to decide.
But I do see that our role model template engine is the one least downloaded by real PEAR users. From default "pear" sets the prefferred state to "stable" so people can't install/view it in most cases. Apart from that, I doubt all php developers understands what a Controller class is or why it solves easily most of your problems. Or btw why use compilation or what means that crappy .gettext.serial files. Most people just need an extremely dumb tpl class to parse one or two block and give to template to the designer (if is not himself) without taking much care on design, efficiency, maintance or i18n, (un)common future needs of their sites.
