Since this is becoming a heated discussion here is a small pro Exception
~ point.
In php (and all scriptiong languages) conditional branching
(if/else/switch) is quite an expencive operation. Using exceptions can
replca a number of if's in your code for error handling thus makes your
code faster.
don't worry if it does not make sence, coz i just made it up :)
