HTTP_Session Alive?

HTTP_Session has much of what I need in a session management package but it is marked as beta and hasn't been touched since March of 2003. Is this dead? If not, can I get a quick status on where it is. I'm trying to decide whether or not to use it or simply write my own. Thanks, --Tony
