Sounds good to me. I do this in some other packaging code I have.
When I check deps, I first check the "provides" for the other packages
that are queued up to be installed, so that the version details of
*those* packages are used to satisfy the requirements, and not those
of the currently installed packages, which might not be up to date (or
even exist).
