If one only wishes to check whether an extension is in memory, just remove the <min> and <recommended> tags.
Sounds good to me. I do this in some other packaging code I have. When I check deps, I first check the "provides" for the other packages that are queued up to be installed, so that the version details of *those* packages are used to satisfy the requirements, and not those of the currently installed packages, which might not be up to date (or even exist).
The way the installer works is it sorts packages so that dependencies are installed first. This makes the work of "which one do I check" a lot easier, as it is safe to assume that all deps are installed at install time. For download code, it checks to see if a package that is being downloaded satisfies the dependency. If so, it returns, otherwise it checks to see if an installed package satisfies the dependency. Should work out OK, if I did it right :) Greg
