The performance difference between double- and single-quoted strings is
negligable at best. I'm sure there are many other places where an effort to
optimize your code would produce significantly better results. For example, I
see people use for/foreach loops to operate on arrays all the time, when
there's usually an array_*() function that does the same thing.
The risk of breaking working code by fiddling with the quoting style is not
worth the miniscule performance benefit you would see, imo.
