It has been proposed several times to put Smarty into PEAR. At that
time, however, it wasn't possible because of differing coding standards
(formatting mostly and function naming). Plus, neither Monte nor I had
time to do so. I said that if someone wants to take up the project and
convert Smarty so that it can live in the "extended" part of PEAR, not
"core", then it would be a big step forward.
