'lo, I am in the process of revamping the PEAR installation in Gentoo Linux. One of the things that I have to do (for FHS compliance, amongst other issues) is to change the PEAR directory from /usr/lib/php to /usr/share/php. I have almost completed the work for this but pear config-set xxx yyy system seems to have no effect. The value set does not show up in pear config-show Am I misunderstanding the intention of the system layer? I need to change the default configuration of PEAR that is used by all users who call the pear CLI frontend without a personal .pearrc file. I am experiencing this issue with PEAR 1.3.5.Hi all! The Stig's idea about the layered config was inspired in the Xwindows one. There are system defaults which could be overwritten by user's defaults, which could be overwritten by cmdline. I'd recommend you to use cmdline params. See an example at: http://cvs.php.net/co.php/pear-core/template.spec ("pear help options" for more info) Tomas V.V.Cox
