IMO, I don't see that as an improvement. Sure it may be convenient, but it looks like it would be a major headache to debug applications that would be using such a feature. Also, unless the extension is included in all PHP versions, this would create major compatibility issues. When it comes to overloading, I think it'd be better stick to OO programming.
The point of PHP_Compat is to be a drop in thing. Only with such an extension will this work for signature changes.
aside from that I would recommend using a prefix that can easily be added and removed using a search/replace on your code.
Any prefered one? All of Aidan's suggestions are prefixes to function names...
well "_" will not be easy to remove with a search/replace. static function calls are needlessly expensive. so phpcompat_, phpc_ .. whatever is fine with me. regards, Lukas Smith smith@backendmedia.com _______________________________ BackendMedia www.backendmedia.com berlin@backendmedia.com Linn Zwoch Smith GbR Pariser Str. 44 D-10707 Berlin Tel +49 30 83 22 50 00 Fax +49 30 83 22 50 07
