Hi:

Digester provides a unified interface to performing common
initialization processing; processing done when a configuration file is read
or webservice message received. Some of this processing includes creating
objects, setting data, and creating parent-child relationships among
objects.

At this point I don't think it makes much sense to talk about Digester
without mentioning XML because it's entirely geared towards providing a
higher level interface to an event-driven XML Parser(e.g. SAX) and the
custom code you often need to right when performing the processing mentioned
above as well as other desired initialization tasks.
