Ey! What's wrong with the pear installer? it works quite good.

Multi-packages downloads is a thing in mind and cursory discussed time
ago. Think in a simple XML file like:
<multi>
<title>The core PEAR components</title>
<version>1.2</version>
<packages>
<package>Mail_Mime-1.0.tgz</package>
<package>Auth-1.0.tgz</package>
<package>...</package>
</packages>
</multi>
That could remote install all the packages with something like:
# pear-get install-multiple core.xml
Also this file could be the "packages.xml" file of a tgz with multiple
packages inside (core-1.2.tgz). System admins would be very happy with
this :-)

Has some advantages also: you don't need to do anything to use the
classes :) I normally use XML, Bench, Mail, DB, Upload, Pager, etc, etc,
etc and I want to have an easy way for installing all of them at once.
