In PHP? Or in PEAR?
PHP "fixed" it for a while and now it's an issue again with 4.0.4-dev and
5.0.5-dev due to really fixing the references memory corruption issue.
In PEAR, I recall us fixing several locations where variables weren't
being returned by reference. Perhaps there are more.
