Hi,
There is a good chance that work on a new major version of HTML_QuickForm package will start soon, this would be a PHP5-only package with a quite different API. Now, as QuickForm existed long before current guidelines for package versioning were established, its current version is 3.2.5 but the package name has no number appended. Therefore, a question. Should a new version be HTML_QuickForm2 or HTML_QuickForm4? HTML_QuickForm2 with versions starting from 4.0.0 looks a bit stupid, but HTML_QuickForm4 looks a bit stupid, too, since there were never HTML_QuickForm2 and HTML_QuickForm3.

I think the last definition said forth in the RFC Alan put up would allow you to do HTML_QuickForm2 with entirely new version numbering. So you can start at 0.1.0 alpha if you want: http://pear.php.net/pepr/pepr-proposal-show.php?id=65 Hmm actually reading the document again it does seem to mandate 2.x for the first stable release of a major version 2 release. Anyways reading that document it I think it would be alright to do: HTML_QuickForm2 0.x for the pre stable releases HTML_QuickForm2 4.x for the stable releases (this is similar to PHPUnit2 3.x). Unfortunately this was all never really merged into the core docs :(

My preference goes to HTML_QuickForm2 with version numbers starting at 0.x.x This seems like the most understandable solution. Should we make a proposal or is this ok with everyone ?

I think it is ok. I see nothing in any docs/RFC that prevents the usage of the logical choice. -- Pierre I agree with you! HTML_QuickForm2 with version numbers starting at 0.x.x is the best solution. Bye ;) G.D.
